I am often astounded by people who claim to be highly trained, competent psychic mediums who seem to be unaware of the difference between working on a psychic versus a mediumistic level. Essentially, a psychic reading focuses on you, your life, perhaps your past, present and in some cases, future opportunities. Psychics read 'the living' - the physical, carnate world. Working as a medium means you are able to create a link with the Spirit World, and in my eyes, sustain that link long enough to work out who you are speaking to, who they link to on the living plane, and what message they may have for that loved one.
I have seen many 'mediums' giving demonstrations where they are predominantly using their psychic abilities rather than linking to Spirit. Why? For some, it is that they are untrained, how are they supposed to know where their information is coming from (the living or those who have passed on) if they haven't learnt to recognise the differences in the way reading psychically feels compared to passing on information from Spirit. For others, it is laziness. Psychic information is relatively easily accessible to those with a gift, and particularly for the empathic psychics who pick up easily on moods and emotions of the living. I have to stop myself grinding my teeth in frustration when I see a medium go straight to a member of the audience at a 'mediumship' event, starting with 'You've been feeling rather low recently' - so, which Spirit is giving them this message? They often use this 'mood gauging' as a way in to reading for someone, with no particularly clearly described Spirit in residence!
As is widely known, all mediums are psychic but not all psychics are mediums. In other words, psychic ability is the base line which everyone who has a gift begins with, but not all psychics develop or hone an ability to speak and communicate evidence from the Spirit world.
How to tell if you are receiving information from the living (psychic information from the aura or energy surrounding a person) or from Spirit is a very individual discernment. Some sensitives report a feeling of cobwebs on the face or goosebumps when communicating mediumistically. Others feel a warmth or a pull on the top of their head (crown chakra). When working on a psychic level, it is common to work from the solar plexus, to feel a pull in that upper abdominal area, and many psychics describe the feeling of working with the living as far more grounded and 'flat' in a way, compared to the raise in energy required and felt when linking to the Spirit world.
So why does it matter, I hear you ask? If a person receives upliftment from a message, is it really that big a deal that the psychic and/or the recipient thinks it is from their 'dead' Grandad Jim when in fact it is a psychic message, pulled from their own energy? Well, yes. Imagine you are on the Other Side, waiting patiently in line to give a loved one that all important message, you turn up at the demonstration, the medium seems to be linking to your family member and even possibly to you, describes you but then proceeds to completely ignore what you actually want to say in favour of a platitude or a cliche - the worst type of psychic message. Or imagine you are told by what you think is Grandad Jim that you will pass that important exam first time, but it is actually a psychic message which (as often happens) has been misinterpreted, and you actually fail the exam.
This in turn may lead you to distrust Grandad Jim (which you never did when he was alive) and probably the rest of the spirit world too, when in fact it was just an error on the part of the psychic, passing information pulled from your hopes and desires of passing the exam, these desires being uppermost in your aura at that time.
So learn the difference between gleaning information psychically , what type of information that tends to be and how that makes you feel, versus linking to Spirit , and how different that feels.
It is really important.
Next blog will be focusing on powering up, cleansing down and psychic protection.

Frequent questions: "Have you always been psychic?"
It is quite useful I find to answer on here some of the most frequent questions I get asked as a psychic medium. The most common one, after "can you see anything/one around me?" is "have you always been psychic?"
To answer from my own point of view, although I didn't know what exactly 'psychic' was and couldn't put a name to it when I was younger, I suppose I have. As a child, I used to watch adults talk to each other, mesmerised by the way the colours around them changed and got bigger or smaller depending on whether they were sad, happy, angry, excited. I know now I was seeing auras, but this is something many children do naturally anyway. I was 13 when I knew I could see Spirit. I knew because my Grandad came to visit me one evening and sat on the end of my bed. Nothing unusual there. Apart from the fact it had been his funeral the day before.
I always knew things, could 'catch out' people who were lying to me, and they never understood how. It came as a surprise to me, but it was exciting too. Unlike many people I have since met who were scared of their abilities or dismissed them, I welcomed them in and felt safe with them. It may be partly due to the fact that my parents also believe strongly in life after life, and Mum and Mum's Mum had the gift, although it wasn't discussed much at home.
So that's me. Others I have met are either like me, born this way (through heredity, fate, whatever you want to believe) and realised either at the time or later their calling, OR they came to study and discover the psychic and mediumistic world through trauma, grief or loss. Not to say these types of psychics and mediums were 'giftless' before - it takes a spark, an event, a need, for some people to take the first step on this journey.
Tomorrow I am going to look at the difference between being a psychic and a medium!

Top ten signs you are psychic
So... You started out on your journey as a sceptic or a believer to one degree or another (or a fence sitter - thought I told you this blog was not your sort of thing? You just want to stay for a little while? Just to see what this is all about? Ok then. But do try to keep the noise down)
Now let's see what you got. Here are my top signs that indicate you have a psychic gift and probably should be using it and developing it. But that is a whole other post!
1) You know the phone is going to ring or the door will be knocked before it happens. Extra points if you know WHO it is
2) You have vivid dreams, some may even have elements that come true
3) You are a 'sensitive' - you pick up on atmospheres and emotional energy in rooms, buildings, between people, and you probably know within 2 minutes of meeting someone if you like them or not.
4) You know how a situation will pan out; you don't know how you know - you just do. This might relate to, for example, a friend's relationship, your brother's new job, your Mum's house move.
5) You've always felt a little bit...different
6) You have telepathic skills. To my mind, there are those people who are on setting 1 - OFF, some on 2 - SEND ONLY, 3 - RECEIVE ONLY and 4 - SEND AND RECEIVE. A psychic spends a lot of time in mode 3 and 4, sending and receiving information from the minds of those around them. Most children have this gift, usually until around 5 or 6 when they start school and the hard edges of the education system knocks it out of them.
7) You believe in signs, fate, destiny
8) You may have a psychic relative in the family - this gift can be hereditary and follow either the maternal or paternal line
9) You have other senses in addition to the usual 5; these may include seeing, feeling, tasting, smelling, hearing and/or just knowing things that by the normal rules of science and nature, you shouldn't be able to. One example is smelling tobacco when no one has been smoking. This can be a sign that a loved one in Spirit who smoked is around you. The psychic world and the world of mediumship are very closely linked and often dovetail.
10) Because you just know and feel that you do. Trust that instinct, develop your gift so it can be of use to yourself and others and enjoy it!

"Born To Do It" or "Not A Psychic Bone In My Body?"
Hi and welcome to my blog. I will be posting about many different Spiritual subjects such as how to cleanse and protect yourself when doing psychic work, how to do various insightful meditations, as well as lots and lots of information for those wishing to connect and work with the Angels. For today, though, let's concentrate on YOU and your psychic abilities. You will no doubt fall into one of two camps - the first being the "I have always known I could do this sort of thing" camp, and the "Psychic? Isn't that that science subject I hated at school?" camp. There are also the fence sitters, but those who know me will know I don't really spend a lot of time with those who don't research or care enough about spiritual matters to actually climb down from the safety of their post and pluck the splinters out of their proverbial.
Let's deal with the latter right now. You don't get to close this blog and go on your merry way, I'm afraid. In fact, chances are you could be even more gifted than those who believe in all this and know already they were born to do it. Why? Because you probably have a healthy level of cynicism and a desire to know the truth (and any untruths). So read on, one and all. This blog is for everyone (except fence sitters - go on, move along now, nothing to see here - don't you have a large plank of wood to warm?)
